| Packers Fanboi | I ran sli'd 7600gt's for a bit just a little while ago. To be honest, they can't compete anywhere close with an 8800, and even 1 x1800xt plays cod4 better than the 2 did in sli. The main reason I like having 2 cards is the fact that I can run all 3 of my monitors at once. (I still don't know why I keep filling up all that space... I always seem to find a way.)Also, I have a tuner card in my computer, so the valve hardware survey thinks I have 3 graphics cards in my computer, lol (and that's why it's so hard to fit a sound card in, lol.) ![]() e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | F Ucn rd dis U mst uzUNIX | I'm wondering now if the OP is thinking that SLI is the only dual card solution. I bought my 7800GT for $305 and scored a hefty 3.9K in 3Dmark05...overclocked to get there. ![]() For $400 there's the 3870's in crossfire that put up a "nice" 24K...in 06, and without breaking a sweat. One is still 5x's what the old girl would put out. At the time of purchase, the 7800GT's were still on eBay for $90. What is better? I'll take $100 more for that percentage of gain Alex. | I'm not using SLI either. First off because I have X38 chipset. Second, my 8800GT plays games at 1680x1050 no problem |

| I built my first rig in November and got a LOT of advice on skipping SLI. So I did and haven't regretted it. Maybe in a few years when I upgrade. Hah, by then it'll be four or eight cards together. ![]() |

| The Real Final Word | At the moment no, I was running SLI'd 7600GT's and then won a 8600GTS at a LAN party, and then traded my dual 7600's for another 8600GTS, but the second 8600 had issues, so it is gone for warranty RMA at the moment. The wife asked me several weeks ago what I wanted for an upgrade, she was going to spend her money for a late B-day present, and at that time I said a Phenom 9850............Well to make a long story short, I decided on a XFX 8800GTS Alfa Dog Edition video card!!! Holy crap, this thing rocks ![]() ![]() ![]() |
