The fan is not a big deal anymore. They put a on diff fan to reduce heat.

You playing it with AA turned up?

I was just saying with AA up, any game'll suffer bad FPS even at that resolution. And the GT's fan was changed, but lots of the deals now are clearing stock the old fans. Also if you do buy the GT, make sure you have the latest Bios that was released a few weeks ago.

BIOS for the GPU? lol. If he doesn't get the latest BIOS, how do you flash a newer GPU BIOS?

With the application provided by your card manufacturer. The latest BIOS for the 8800GT fixes the fan speed "problem", where the fan would not spin fast enough to dissipate the heat created by the GPU.

Thanks very much for everyone's advise. Everyone is suggesting 8800GT, but some say 8800GT is overkill for 1280x1024 with 2 or 4 AA/AF for gaming. I am also looking at this card, which has a better cooler then 8800GT

GeCube Radeon HD 3850 512MB - £110 ($215)

techPowerUp! Review :: GeCube Radeon HD 3850 X-Turbo III 512 MB :: Page 1 / 23

The different bewteen this and 8800GT is 10 to 20 FPS (1280 x 1024 2AA 8AF). Looking at the value/performance and furture resistance factors, is the extra £50 ($100) worth the cost of 8800GT?

I would get the 8800GT. See it this way, 10 to 20 fps can be the difference between playable and unplayable in some games.

true but when the game is playing at 100+ fps then that 10-20 is all show and no noticeable performance to people's eyes... or when you are seeing 57 versus 64 fps (Supreme Commander), that is very negligible. Especially when you may as well save a few dollars and get the same performance.

Thanks HL and Corsair!
