It's way too big. It looks longer than the 7950GX2 Long edition, and those were longgg.

Its the OEM version. The OEM R600 has 8.5-9" PCB, and the cooler puts the total length at 12". The retail will have the same 8.5-9" PCB, but the cooler won't extend past the PCB like that, making the Retail R600 shorter then the 8880GTX

Not to nit-pick...but OEM and Retail typically mean the same product, just different prices and levels of warranty. Which is why I called it an engineering sample.

ATI is doing differently this time around, they have the over sized cooler for OEMs (most likely do to rather poor cooling in most OEM cases and don't want to deal with heat problems), and the figure that people who buy retail will have better cooling in their cases and such. This is just an assumption though.

More information HERE...
Quote:
VR-Zone web-site claims that there would be two versions of ATI R600 XTX: one is for OEM/SI and the other for retail. Both feature 1GB of GDDR4 memory on board, but the OEM version is 12.4” long, whereas the retail is 9.5” long. The power consumption of the AMD R600 graphics card is 270W for 12” version and 240W for 9.5” version. The difference between the boards is unclear.

Daaaamn. That's a big card. Power hungry too. Still, I can't imagine the OEM version having a removable turbine fan like that. Most peeps that buy pre-builts never take the sides off them. Oh well, we will see soon enough I guess.

There is no way this card is OEM. It's too "unpolished". The cooler is needed because the GPU is ES and they have not tuned down the power requirements. ATI will refine the process for power efficiency. Notice the arrows for opening up the blower, that screams ES to me.

At this point, I think it's all semantics. ES or OEM, that product right there will be put together better and polished up before it goes to mass production.

dang.
i wonder what the prices will be like, and which line-up of nvidia cards they are going to compete with.
Also wonder if they are guna pull an intel and slam nvidia back to the point where it's almost never suggested to the builder...

Size comparison,

R600 OEM vs. Retail 8800GTX. Shorter PCB, bigger sink.
