I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

I know, crazy right? It's almost as if they designed the Xbox 360 as a gaming platform...

really? the point was that it uses GDDR as system memory...

why are mobo manufacturers forcing us to stay with DDR3 when DDR5 is being released. After some checking, there is little to no difference other than lower speeds and lower latencies with GDDR chips.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

yet it uses a motherboard much like the one in a laptop...
it has memory banks, and everything else just like a regular motherboard, but in this case it uses GDDR for system memory...

so if a laptop had GDDR of any amount it would be considered a gaming platform? If that is the case then most of our laptops are gaming platforms.
I don't get what you are getting at Paul.... regardless if it is a gaming platform, a laptop or a ebook reader, using GDDR instead of DDR should mean that there is a capability for the average user to make some sort of modification to make use of this same type of setup on a regular PC. As the regular user we are being held back by an industry that prefers to limit exposure to a large bottle neck with modern systems. why should a video card be the only one that is able to use this high speed low latency memory? Lets get 3GHz DDR5 memory for our system so the latest Phenom can use full bus speed instead of being limited by the 1066MHz DDR2 bus speed?
I know you're joking around Paul but I am asking seriously.

It is important to note that this GDDR-2 memory used on graphics cards is not DDR2 per se, but rather an early midpoint between DDR and DDR2 technologies. Using "DDR2" to refer to GDDR-2 is a colloquial misnomer.
In particular, the performance-enhancing doubling of the I/O clock rate is missing. It had severe overheating issues due to the nominal DDR voltages. ATI has since designed the GDDR technology further into GDDR3, which is more true to the DDR2 specifications, though with several additions suited for graphics cards.
