The point of diminishing returns, just like adding more cores to a CPU. The jump for single to dual core processing was tremendous, from dual to quad not so much. Having all that power is only going to effect synthetic benchmarks, hell the standard LCD monitor can't display over 60 frames per second anyway so it makes having 4 graphics processors pretty moot. Only time they'll be needed is in like 2-3 years when games really start to tax them to the limit, and by then of course there will be something way better out.

Yea, but 31 point difference Nate

IMO, Tri-SLI isn't worth it.

Man, I wish I could find the post but I'm at work atm...But there's an editorial out there (on bit-tech I think) and many others I'm sure; discussing current GPU progression. There is SO much more potential in our graphics cards than most of us realize. The article compared the latest PC graphics with the Xbox 360, which has the equivilant of a 7800 series card. Given the obvious potential we see with the console market just think of how much raw processing power our computers have at hand. But in the end the bottom line wins out and the giants of the industry would rather release new cards and get our cash than persue development of current generation hardware. It's just crazy to think that relatively speaking, a current 8800GT has the processing potential to run any current game out now at the highest settings if developers were given the time to exhaust the product's full potential.

Current Machine:
Intel E2220
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
AC Freezer 7 Pro
2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800
EVGA 8800GT 512MB
X-Fi Extreme Gamer
Seagate 250GB SATA
WD Raptor 74GB SATA
Samsung S203B DVD+R
Silverstone SF60 Modular 600w
Antec Nine Hundred
Acer 2216Wbd 22" LCD

Yup, it's nothing new really. PC games are hardly optimized when comparing to console games, and that's for the sake of devs I guess. It would be very long and tedious to optimize games more while keeping a certain level of compatibility with every PC component out there, something you don't have to do when you run software on a console exclusively.
There's no difference in hardware over a Playstation 3 and the other Playstation 3 (other than bigger HD and whatnot, nothing that affects processing power per se) or an Xbox 360 and another.
