And how'd the driver uninstall/fresh install go? Your culprit's looking suspiciously like a driver SNAFU, or insufficient power supply. Or both.

A last ditch option would be to start with a fresh install of Windows. The problem with that on older OEMs is it might be difficult to find appropriate drivers for the rest of your system (onboard sound, chipset, etc).

Read through some of this, although it does not cover the 7600GS and is two years old, it still offers some good info. Mainly that VIA claims to know that a problem exists between their chipset and Nvidia, they do not feel that it should be corrected, given the fact that most of their stuff is compliant with everything else.

Also reading other misc. sites, people have had luck changing the speed of the AGP slot down to 4x, running the games in windowed mode, and chaing the operation thingy from Direct3D to OpenGL.

Yup, saw some similar things on the VIA support forums. One person did mention that it only happened with Direct X games, but not OpenGL ones, like you said. Someone also said something about forcing the AGP port to run in PCI mode, but they said it hurt performance by about 50%.

EDIT: Found it, here it is.
VIA Arena - VIA chipset and Nvidia drivers not compatible with my card.

Well I had look at the site and did what it recommended I downloaded revatuner and did the following that is in red

2. Install and load Rivatuner
3. Click the "Power User" tab
4. Click the left-most folder icon on in the lower part of the screen
5. Browse to this file and click ok:
Databases\W2K\Forceware 71.84.rtd
6. Click on "NVIDIA Forceware 71.84 w2k System"
7. Scroll down to "UseUncachedPCIMappings"
8. Click on the value box adjacent to 7.
9. Enter a "1" in the box in 8.
10. Reboot

Now I did not fully understand instruction 9 so I just entered a 1 in the field since there were no other numbers present so therefore I do not know if I have done it correctly, as in I do not know what should really be there since I got confused for I did not understand in box 8? Sorry if that sound moronic but I am knew at this sort of thing lol. So if anyone could provide some instructions with some pictures to help me out that would be great.

What is the Power Supply you are using? I bet you the 7600GS is power starved.

I still think it has something to do with the VIA chipset. Do you still have the 8500LE?

EDIT:::::
Have you ever taken this to a professional computer repair place?

Do you have this problem in all games or just a select titles? If it is only certain games, then it's probably software related. Try setting your driver's 3D quality settings all to default (or "application controlled").
