Yes but no one can convince me that when it does happen, it isn't at a great time, "coincidentally" to get as much money as they can and get people to spend as much as possible.

Oh lets see, um the socket A, 939, and the AM2, I think that is it.

The socket A was one of the best of the best for its time, and the 939 was fairly short lived, and then the AM2, which turned out to be the AM2+. Now most of the boards that started out to be the AM2 was able to get a Bios upgrade to become the AM2+, at least my Asus board is that way. I started out with a AM2 board, running a 5200, and with a Bios upgrade, I am able to run a Phenom 9850 now.

As I recall, and I have in my possession, a 775 board from about 2 years ago, a D915PBL that will not even run any of the newer Intel chips! As a matter of fact, it is a real POS to be honest!
It would be great if Intel would at least give you some kind of a Bios upgrade, and I know they did on some of the later boards, but for the most part didn't, to support some of the later chips.

Socket A, Socket 754, Socket 939, and socket AM2/+ have all been around in the lifespan of LGA775. the problem with intel isnt frequent socket changes, but rather the chipsets used in them. 925XE was the best chipset for the P4, however intel didnt allow it to run the dualcore Pentium D. 955X was the best chipset for the original pentium D, however i believe it wouldnt run the 65nm Pentium D, then the 975X was considered the best for 65nm Pentium D, however it couldnt run Core2Duo until later revisions were released. for the most part since then, later run cpu's were compatible with older chipsets. for example the gigabyte 965P DQ6 can run the 45nm Core2Duo's with a bios update depending on the PCB version. i believe you have to have V2.0 or V3.0 in order to run one.

look at it this way, LGA has been around since late 2002. thats 6 years for a socket that has seen everything from single core 90nm prescott to quadcore 45nm yorkfield. thats a pretty good run in my opinion

I didn't realize, that it would be a whole new socket......does this mean that all new items,(mobos, procs.and HS etc) will carry a larger than life price tag just because they are "new"? I saw the prices that were brought up in another thread just for the procs.....just wondering if all else will follow suit?
