Question Don't the racks themselves cost quite a bit

You add the CPU's of your choice, hard drives and Ram and of course the OS and your set.

Well other than all of the apps!!!
Don't the holding racks to hold those cost a pretty penny or two

Yes and no. If you purchase new ones with the doors and glass and all of the fancy stuff, then yes. If you just purchase a simple steel rack, then they are fairly cheap.

One might find a great deal on a server rack at ebay as well. One thing about a rack, you can install 8 to 24 port switches or hubs as well.

I am sure you already know this, I am just throwing it out there for GP. Server Components tend to be more expensive then normal PC Components. This is because servers are Designed for 24/7/365 operation. You will also notice the term Redundancy used when talking about servers. This is so if a component fails the server will keep operating until a tech has time to fix it (or discover it).

Server Racks are great for consolidation, space conservation, and cable routing/management. Like Stinger said, you can put your other networking components in the Rack as well.

Building a server can be fun, but it can also be more frustrating then building a normal PC. Not as much now with SATA, but back in the SCSSI days building a RAID Array could be a real nightmare.

I wonder if Tyan accepts Paypal and ships to Canada...otherwise I'll be stuck buying a server from NCIX, and they don't have Woodcrest servers yet (just Opty and Xeon and Pentium).

There are several E-tailers that carry Tyan MoBos.

Yeah, NCIX does. But they're selling Tyan-based motherboards only as stand-alone mobos. They're using Seasomething(I forgot the exact name) for servers. That sucks.

If you find something that will only ship in the US, I'd be glad to accept it for you and send it on.

That means I can hunt in NewEgg and ZipZoomFly, thanks Blondie!

Maybe I can find some parts that I've been hunting up here and can't seem to locate
