Well Tyan is the way to go, and they make several MBs that are designed to fit in Rack Mount cases.

I'm planning on using a server-case, ie. E-ATX format.

Probably a couple of the new 750GB HDs, on-mobo video and sound, 1 optical, and that'll be all. It'll be connected to the office network in the new HQ building.

the only thing you have to watch out for on the Tyan Opteron boards is the HD controller. My work (as an ISP) had two high end boards and within a month of each other the hd controller went out... they got it swapped for a newer board (newer revision) and updated BIOS and so far after 2 months no problems

Thanks HL and Corsair!

By buying the latest mobo, I shouldn't have any problems right?

I'm also looking at dual-CPU versus single CPU for my Ultimate PC build. And I'm looking at building another Media Center PC.

Not neccessarily. The latest board could have a crappy BIOS and be unstable. What you should look for is a board that fits every need you have (The bus types, CPU socket, RAM type, etc. etc. ), and then read reviews of that board by both users and review sites such as HL to see if the board is decent or not.

Typically if you look at the revision number of the board, like at least ver. 2 or 3 or more then it should be a good board, Rev1 boards can be problematic for any socket type

Well the one on my wish list at NCIX says ver. 2, so I'm safe.
Going with the 5000 series CPU.

One of the other nice items with Tyan, they have some barebone setups that are 1U and 2U rack ready that have the redundant power supply, motherboard, optical drive, and floppy drive already encased in the rack server.
You add the CPU's of your choice, hard drives and Ram and of course the OS and your set.

Well other than all of the apps!!!
