| Exactly, I'm only concerned with hardware problems from an overheating CPU. If the only thing that's going to happen is that Windows could get corrupted or data lost, then I really dont' care at all. So, are you guys saying that, within reason, there is not as much of a hardware risk so long as I'm not going nuts with voltages? I'm just talking about the CPU overheating and crashing programs or restarting my computer, that's all. I tons of very precious and important data, but that's all on another drive that isn't even connected. I never connect that drive unless I know that my system is 100% stable. Even if the data isn't on your OS partition, an unstable system can still corrupt data on other non-OS partitions. Not likely, but it can still happen. Especially if you access it. | Modder-ator | Heat is nothing to fluff off... The max temperature of an Athlon64 is somewhere in the 60ºC range. Personally, I don't like to let it go over 50ºC. I'm sure an A64 could handle running in the low 60º's, but I'm not gonna try it. If it doesn't kill it, then overheating will probably really cause it to start messing up and reall shorten it's life. When it comes to temperatures, I'd rather be safe than sorry... |

| I'm Evil | Supposedly the new BIOS for that board allows you to calibrate the temp sensor..... Haven't tried it out yet, so I don't know if its true. I'd say its 10-12 C low at the moment. I also notice a growing rumble over at the DFI forums regarding this issue. I've been reading about it a lot on DFI street too. I guess the general consensus is that reported core temps are about, as Capper said, 10-12C low. I'm not so sure that's the case for my board though as that puts my idle temps at almost 50C, haha! Blake, I think you're right and I'm just going to have to go get a temperature sensor. Do you take into consideration the fact that the temp that you're measuring at the edge of the heatspreader is probably less than the actual core temp? How much of a difference would you guess there is? I know some people have carved a grooves in the center to the edge of their heatspreaders to place the temp sensor in, but I don't want to do that, so I would be measuring it from the edge of the spreader. | Modder-ator | I would say the temperature difference between the core and the temp sensor is probably 3-5 degrees C. If you get it close enough (touching the edge of the IHS) it is pretty accurate I think. And yeah, I would be pretty worried about carving/drilling a hole in the IHS for the probe too ;) |

| Oh my god... stupid Firefox. I didn't see this thread until this morning! Temp monitors are pretty cheap and i'm on the look out for a place to buy em right now. I know that Performance-pcs has them and so does Xoxide but I try not too buy from the states. Nothing personal, just shipping kills. ![]() I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220 |
