i think its the audio drivers, but i cant get them to install, some **** about "cannot find HDA audio controller" and the asus install utility wont install it either, its a pain in the but, got all the drivers for my other stuff to work (except my x-fi, wich i gotta download the drivers for as my disc is dead), it also boots quicker now that i dont have the jmicron controller drivers installed, just gotta fix the damned usb ports, pci device thingy, and onboard audio (not that I'll use it!!), ill look into that media controll thingy u said, thanks

After some poking around , it appears your motherboard has a SoundMax Analog Devices ADI AD1988B. The soundmax website has no drivers that you can download.

The only things I can think of:

Are you sure your downloading the right driver?

Are you sure the soundchip isn't just faulty, and its time for an RMA?

but since he has the xtreme music, shouldn't the bios automatically disable this once the x-fi is recognized? I would say go disable onboard sound in the bios and be sure to NOT install the soundmax onboard drivers...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

hey, its all working now, i just disabled the onboard in bios and didnt install the drivers for it, and i turned the usb speed in bios to fullspeed instead of hispeed, and it all works, but now it boots even slower, 13 - 14 winxp startup cycle thingies, oh well, i might just have to learn to live with it, unless you now of a way to fix that as well???
