| Colonel Calamity | If this helps any, my last major build was an Athlon XP and then there was quick socket 939 Athlon64 build (just a matter of putting a few easy pieces together). I was going into my socket 775 build expecting it to be more in depth... it was still building but just with different technology. The cpu sat in the socket differently, the heatsink locked in differently, the memory sat the same, the hard drive was much easier than PATA. I think the toughest part for me was getting the heatsink seated properly and then the proper memory/cpu divider and related settings. Once that was set, everything else was easy as cake. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| Yeah, putting on the cpu heatsink/fan seems in a PITA. I plan on getting maybe a Zalman perhaps. Anyhow, I think all I really need left to decide on is the case, ram, mobo, and the optical drive(s). For the case I'm thinking TT Armor. Ram, I'm really considering this Newegg.com - CORSAIR 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Desktop Memory - Retail If I decide to get another gig of that some time after, will it be able to be dual channel enabled, or am I just stick with either choosing between a 512mb x2 kit or 1gb x2 kit? | Colonel Calamity | any gaming? I played BF2 on my new system today for the first time and I had the Task Manager open on the other monitor and I noticed that 1.5GB of my memory was being used with the game open whereas even with Firefox open, it usually only has 300-400MB used. Playing BF2 on my older XP3000+ was using 1.2GB of the 1.5GB it had ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| Yes, actually. I don't really plan on playing battlefield, though I admit that I do have battlefield vietnam and 1942. Most of the time I think it will range from WoW, CS Source/Half Life 2, Call of Duty series and so on. MAYBE FEAR, but not sure if a 7600gt can handle it. | Ehh, ok I guess. Any recommendations? I don't think I really think I have to go DDR 800. Should I consider other brands or stick with Corsair XMS? Current system specs: Northwood Intel P4 2.4ghz Asus P4S533 mobo Geforce 4 TI 4200 Corsair 1gb Value Select ram Generic PSU Sound Blaster Audigy |
