| Alright, I understand what you mean, but if AMD Athlon 64 3500+ is suppose tot ake advantage of that, could you explain a little more on that? |

| socket 939 junkie | the athlon 64 was initially designed to take advantage of DDR400 when it was first developed. its due to the memory controller being directly on the processor instead of on the motherboard. due to that fact, the athlon 64 thrives on high bandwidth ram. however thats not to say that it wont function with DDR333 or DDR266. its kinda like putting gas in your car. higher octane gas gives you higher performance. |

| So, it will be a little bit quicker, since the DDR is like in the processor? But with my other ram, would it make it a little bit more faster? =0 |

| socket 939 junkie | yes, it will make it slightly faster but dont confuse the memory controller with the ram actually being in the processor. just the main memory hub aka memory controller. the station that actually allocates the memory to specific tasks. see there was a slight delay when the memory controller was on the motherboard because the cpu had to communicate with the chip, then the chip had to send it to the ram, then the ram to the chip and then back to the cpu. now 2 inches may not seem a long distance, but on a motherboard its like driving accross the USA. since the athlon 64 has the memory controller on the chip itself, its like the equivelant of driving down the street to the grocery store with a shopping list, gettng what you need and coming back instead of driving from new york to los angelas to do the same thing |

| Ahh, bump, I forgot, the box of the processor had a sticker saying 3500+ Socket AM2 Would it consider AM2 than? or still socket 939? |

You will have to buy a Motherboard that has the AM2 socket, and DDR2 RAM. If your going to buy a new Mobo CPU and RAM I suggest going with Intel Core 2 Duo. They offer the best performance for the price right now. Read This Article, I think it will help you understand buying Computer Parts. Last edited by Hitman; January 3rd, 2007 at 03:59. | |
