Since you're considering $300+ motherboards (Striker) and we'll end up talking you into something more reasonable (read: bang/buck), are you sure you're completely sold at a 7950GT? I realize you mentioned selling it a few months down the road, but why not pick up an 8800GTS right from the get-go?

Do you mean the ASUS Strikeout?

Personally, I'd recommend a i965P chipset....and definitely skip those "Extreme " ASUS boards....although they are great boards, they do not justify the $275+ price tag.

Check out the ASUS P5B-Deluxe and the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6, both offer great performance, and excellent overclocking ability.

As far as cooling, the only cooler thats topped the TT Big Typhoon is the Cooler Master GeminII....which would would very well with those passively cooled boards. We do however, have the TT MaxOrb and V-1 on the testbench and should have a pretty good comparison review posted next week or the week after.

INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU

Yes, I would get the 320MB 8800GTS. It tears through today's games while nary breaking a sweat (I've reviewed two of them - EVGA Superclocked and Foxconn's OC'd version), and are priced attractively ($250ish on Newegg).

What monitor do you have? Or are you getting one?
The reason for asking is that, if you are not going any larger than a 22" or 24" widescreen, SLI (or Crossfire) will not do very much for you. You would be better off saving the money of a 2nd card and upgrading the card you do (or will) have.
That also means that you could save some money by not buying an SLI (or Crossfire) motherboard.
So now you need to set up some priorities of what you really want. Then come up with a budget. We would be very happy to help you with complete build suggestions once we really know what you are looking for.
We're even helping without knowing what for.

Intel E8400 - Gigabyte X45-DS4
Zalman 9700NT - 4 Gig Mushkin DDR2-1066
Two Sapphire HD 4870 512mb in CrossFire
PC P & C 750 watt - Samsung 216BW LCD
Samsung DVD-RW - Logitec Z-640 speakers
Linksys WRT54GL Router - CM 690 Case
Seagate 250gig - Vista Home Premium 64bit
