The drive (whether it be a hard drive or a CD drive or a DVD drive) has to be manufactured with a PATA or SATA connection. As right now there aren't very many SATA optical drives, but SATA hard drives are very common.

I think you aren't understanding correctly what I said. The Asus M2N-E has a single PATA connection and six SATA connections. The single PATA connection can actually support two drives because PATA ribbon cables have to connections on them. So you could connect two PATA optical drives onto the same cable and connect it to the single PATA connection on the M2N-E.

The power connections are separate from the data cable and has nothing to do with the motherboard, only the connections available on the power supply.

I get it not, well I think I fully get it. The HDD & CD Drive can use the same one, but just with one ribbon right?

The Main is for the motherboard, the middle ribbon is for CD Rom or HDD, and the end is for the CD or HDD, right?

The master and slave devices can be any PATA device (optical drive, hard drive, etc).
