| The socket is 754, I kinda made a hole in the motherboard where it was near the processor, and yea it does have a square. Last edited by Mysterio; January 17th, 2007 at 12:02. |

And if it is a s754 processor, you need to get a s754 motherboard (an AM2, s939, or Socket A motherboard will not accept a s754 processor).

| The 3300+ is the one for my new computer, the old one was a 3500+ =P Hope you didn't get confused lol. I made a hole while trying to get the processor out with my screw driver... |

| Modder-ator | Eeeesh, sorry to hear about the screw driver accident. I've done that before with the screw driver, but have always managed to make it out alive! ![]() So which processor will be making its home in the motherboard that will be replacing the one killed by the screw driver (and what type of processor is it)?? |

Post up a picture of the top of the processor or post what the letters and numbers are and we can identify it for you.

| the 3500+ is an AM2 socket Btw, I got a question, do you really need Sata to connect the hard drive to the motherboard? My friend said his plug for the hard drive connects to the CD Drive.. Last edited by Mysterio; January 18th, 2007 at 13:54. |

| There should be SATA connectors on the motherboard or PCI card (separate purchase) A PATA (Parallel ATA) drive will use a ribbon cable instead of the small yet faster SATA cable. To add to this, if he is hooking his CD-ROM and HDD to the same cable, he is slowing the performance of his HDD. ____________________________ _= AMD 2700+ OC'd to 3200 =_ -=1GB RAM, ATI 9600XT 512MB=- -------------------------------- |

| Modder-ator | Yeah, as Cyberlon touched on, there are two standard connection types available for desktop hard drives. One is called Parallel ATA (PATA) which uses the wide ribbon type cables like on the CD drive. But like Cyberlon said, you want to avoid having a hard drive and an optical drive on the same cable (and subsequently the same channel) because when the optical drive is in use, it can slow down the hard drive. The other, more modern hard drive connection standard is called Serial ATA (SATA) and offers the benefit of faster transfer speeds (over twice as fast as what is capable on PATA), new features like Native Command Queing (NCQ), and a smaller, easier to manage cable. If you are buying a new hard drive, I highly suggest getting one with a SATA connection as PATA ports will soon (maybe in a few years) be phased out and new motherboards might not even have them onboard. |

| Yeah Okay, anyways, I think I made up my mind now, and get the Gigabyte motherboard, but I was wondering, would the motherboard get burned out if I use the chipset and my power supply cannot support it, and by chipset, if I were to use it.. I think it's the videocard... if I disable it and use my own, would it cause less usage of power? Ehh, I was still browsing around for mother boards... lol so I was looking and I wanted to compare Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G and Asus M2N Socket AM2, in your opinion, what do you think you would recommend?
