| Colonel Calamity | I myself have that EXACT mobo and have not had a single problem with it. Currently has a 3000+ sitting in it and using the onboard video and sound since it is just a basic linux file server for now (until I get it sold). as for the AMD situation: AM2 is stepping up to AM2+ (late this year) which allows for a higher HT speed. AM2 procs will work in AM2+ boards and AM2+ procs will work in AM2 boards. AM2+ is a temporary stopgap since Intel is pushing DDR3 so AMD isn't wanting to lag as far as it did with DDR2. The new AM2+ will allow for the HT to reach up to 6400MHz speeds. The original s939 boards supported 1000MHz HT speeds. AM3 is due out sometime in 2008 is supposed to only support DDR3 but I hear that other than a minor socket change it will be almost the same as AM2/AM2+. | OK I don't have the money as of now to goto AM2 or with a Dual Core Intel my everyday computer that I am on now is an HP with an AM2 board Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and it runs fine with vista and with games no overheating. I'd rather go AMD s939 as it supports my current RAM and also supports the Athlon 64 X2 CPUs which is what I want . I don't feel like spending $200 for RAM right now as I just got what I have now. So for what I'm going for is what Panda posted links up about unless there is a better s939 board out there that has an AGP X8 socket thats not sold out. I just need a board that supports DDR 400 RAM First Build CPU: AMD 64 x2 5000+ Board: Asus M2A-VM Memory: 2 GB G. SKill DDR2 800 Video Card: Asus X1550 HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB & Western Digital Caviar 80GB Case: Apevia X-Dreamer II Power Supply: 420W PSU Cooling: 4 80mm case fans 1 120mm case fan Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition |

| BAM-BAM | For what you would spend on a new motherboard and new s939 chip you could get a great 2gb kit of ram and probably save a few bucks. I wouldnt go backwards in the technology deparrtment. Here is a good ram Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail. -1 |

| Colonel Calamity | DDR2 has come down dramatically in price so you can get a 2GB kit for a little over $100 look at some of the weekly deals here (no cheaper memory but other good prices like the 4000+): Newegg.com Newsletter - Weekly Deals ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair!
