Sadly AMD killed off the s939 awhile back.....its still a damn fine product by todays standards, although it doesn't stack up real well compared to a Core 2 Duo performance wise (dollar to dollar), it is plenty of computer for most casual users, especially when you look at the lower wattage dual core processors.

INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU

AM2 is possibly going AM3 to support DDR3, I dont know that for a fact but its the word on the street.

AM2 is not about to die. AMD has made it clear that the first generation of its new Phenom processors will be backward compatable with current AM2 motherboards. With the introduction of Phenom, there will be new chipsets and motherboards based called AM2+, which is basically AM2 with support for the newer technologies like the faster HyperTransport bus, etc. Then AM3 will be a DDR3 platform.

I don't think he meant die literally, I think he simply meant that it won't be the focus and will be phased out.

INTEL's newest chipset also supports DDR2.....but with DDR2 reaching the end of the line, its a short term solution

anandtech has a good article on this very thing. They say that if the phenom beats the core2duo then they will keep with the ddr2/am2 format for a while. If it doesnt then to keep up they will have to switch to something new.

That is true, Intel is already starting support for DDR3 SDRAM so it's coming whether you like it or not!
But I wouldn't expect prices and availably to be reasonable until at least well into 2008 judging by how fast DDR1 gave way to DDR2...
