I thought Gigabyte was claiming the rev 3.3 series are all ready for the new chips?

Lets stay on topic, and quit linking other review sites, forums, etc....we do enough of that here for everyone.

Gigabyte's Rev 3.3 boards do support the 45nm processors.

The new Gigabyte Hybrid board (P35C-DS3R) is just finishing up its run on the testbench as we speak. I am very impressed, but like most gigabyte boards, think the BIOS could be a lot better. I was able to run the full range of benchmarks at 500FSB (500x7 on a E6600), but 100% stability topped out at 470FSB.....still a very good board with a clean layout and great support.

Hi guys,

This is my first post, so please excuse if I have missed the point.

I built a rig around the Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6. I'll be putting a Q6600 in it next week but for the last 3 weeks ive been running a dual core Pentium E2140 @ 2.7 Ghz and I'm very pleased with this board. It has been a real pleasure to set up.

This board is rev 1.0 and Gigabyte claims it is ready for 45nm.

I'm working on a big article about my meeting with gigabyte this week....one of the things they stressed was that they believe users shouldn't have to replace their motherboards frequently, and that all of their boards will support upcoming processors, as long as the socket doesn't change....a big claim, but something that should make gigabyte boards even more attractive to enthusiasts.

I'm also working on a Gigabyte P35 review, and have to say since they released their P965 boards, Gigabyte has definitely taken the top spot on our Recommended motherboards list.

Welcome to HardwareLogic! :wavey:
I've also got an E2140, mine's waiting to be paired with a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard though. I got the processor used from someone who tested it perfectly stable up to 3.2GHz (400x8) so I'm hoping for good things from this little budget gem.

It's great to hear Gigabyte expressing their concern for consumers! But I have to wonder about how accurate that claim is, considering they had three different revisions of their popular P965 motherboards, only a couple of which support newer processors. But that could also be more a fault of the chipset than the motherboard. What is also curious is exactly how many other processors Intel will have out before a socket change. I think it's fairly safe to say Nehalem will require a new socket, but what other processors will be out before then? Hmmm, Penryn and... umm... Penryn? So yeah, of course they will support new processors until the socket changes, there aren't many processors left to be discovered during the lifespan of LGA775 anyway!

I have been very impressed with the Allendale Pentium chip. A lot of power for a bargan price for sure. I am sure it has a lot more legs but I am just testing for now. It will become my backup chip after the Intel price cut in a couple of days. I plan on putting a Zalman 9700 cooler on a Q6600 and push it a bit harder.

actually, those earlier revisions do support the newer processors, with a BIOS update, as I said..as to sockets, common sense applies.

How does OCing on these boards compare to the P965/G33 chipsets for example? I'll most likely be upgrading my motherboard/cpu VERY soon and was wondering which chipset I should go for! P35 Gigabyte or ASUS pops into mind!
