yeah, although IDE is a dying tech, almost everyone still uses that IDE optical drive they bought a year ago, that works perfectly fine......I'd venture to say that IDE drives are more widely used than IEEE1394 devices.

I want to emphasize that this board is a good option for people who don't plan on overclocking, or who are looking to build a good system for a family member. I'll also say that ECS support is pretty decent compared to some in the industry, which makes it even more attractive for that system you are wanting to build for your mom or dad.

INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU

True that. Support has been excellent for ECS products, RMAs are fast and easy to follow, unlike Asus right now (they just made me jump thru so many hoops for a broken A8N32-SLI DX)

On the other hand, they're frankly damned cheap. It's hard to go for another company when you see the price on those ECS boards. Some of them might be a bit bland, but it's exactly what you need for those small systems where no frills is the way to go.

Yeah, I'm REALLY down on ASUS right now.....for what they charge, I expect a lot better as far as quality and support.

I've had issues with 5 boards, and the ASUS P5N-E SLI board in my Wife's computer crapped out a week ago, she sent an email with anything they could want or need (P/N, S/N, description of problem, etc), and a week later they finally email her back, asking for the product name......just so she can GET an RMA request.

On the good side, Asus fixed their slow website issues after more than 1 year.
