Default Re: Can you update a Gigabyte BIOS...

You should be able to just unzip the bios to the flash drive. If there's anything special you might have to do there'll probably be a text file in the file you've unzipped with some extra instructions, but I'm guessing you'll just need to unzip the files onto the flash drive.

Although I still prefer using floppy's to flash my bios.... (I did flash my abit's bios from windows today without crashing the computer though! woot!).

with my board, i just unzipped it on my laptop, put it on my flash drive, and booted up my desktop and selected Q Flash. It detected the update and did it with no issues.

Would it be wise (risky) and time saving just to pop the Q9450 in and boot it up with the usb in the comp and select q flash. Or would the board not boot up as the cpu is not supported with the current bios on the board?

Try, at worst it doesn't work.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

It sounds simple enough... but is anything else besides the bios file required on the thumb drive? I tried to upgrade through the onboard Gigabyte Bios update utility (found within bios), and it asked for the file on the A: drive.
I don't have a floppy drive installed yet, and couldn't update it.
Now I have a floppy drive and will install tonight... but still would be nice if it could be done via thumb drive as well.

sometimes yes, sometimes no.... I would check to see what version it mentions in the BIOS itself and update it if there is one available on their website...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Okay DL the latest bios. Unzip the entire package to the flash drive. Insert the flash drive and boot up computer. There is only one file needed and that is the bios ROM file. An Example filename would be P35C-DS3R.f3b Go into the bios and select q flash. Select update bios. There will be drive A and Drive B. First try drive A, and if there is nothing there then it is on Drive B. Select the rom file and update it. Whatever you do, do not turn off the PC while it is updating. When using a flash drive, bios updating takes 2 minutes MAX. Doing if off a floppy disk takes atleast 10 minutes and floppies are wayy more prone to messing things up compared to a jump drive.
