Hmm your board shorting out with your case then? You're using brass motherboard standoffs I assume?

Yeah, I am. Seems odd that it'd be shorting though, since it's mounted pretty well. I'm leaning more towards the cables I have running through one of the holes I cut in the case pushing on the mobo and causing it some undue stress, although I'll probably try putting electrical tape over the standoffs and giving it a try, or pulling all the stuff out of the case besides the mobo and trying it, or at least pulling out the cables that I'm worried about so that it doesn't cause any problems.

Sounds like a plan. Keep us updated.

Will do! Worse comes to worse, I'll probably just throw everything into my clear case for now, although I'm really tempted to just get a bigger case right now.... lol. (hopefully dell.com gets the antec 1200 in stock soon... if they do the $200 in gift cards I have are getting used for sure.)

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

If you have extra standoffs installed and they're making contact with your motherboard, that could be your culprit.

Ok, this fsp power supply is the problem, I'm sure of it now.

With my now trusty Cooler Master 450w psu, I can run this mobo no problem, even overclocking the processor to 3.5ghz (i tried a 550mhz fsb, but the psu started making noise at that speed... too much on whichever rail is going to the mobo or cpu, I guess. Weird sound.), but it'll run at 3.5ghz, no problem at all (at least in bios and posting, no os or hard drive hooked up to it.).

I restart a good 10 times at this speed, posts every time.
Swap in the FSP unit, turn it on, no post. (this is with both 4 pin cpu plugs plugged in). Tur it off, unplug one of the cpu plugs so it's 1 4 pin, like it was with the cooler master, turn it on, get an over clocking failed message, fair enough, go into bios, set it back at 500mhz like it was with the cooler master, save, exit, restart, NO POST.

I'm guessing that this unit just doesn't play well with this asus board (it's know for high and even over spec ripple, so I'm guess that's why it's not stable enough.)

I just wish the cooler master could handle my computer... but it doesn't even have enough plugs for everything, lol.

Time to call dell and pickup a silencer quad crossfire, i think. (or something equally awesome).

Well, crap. Just threw the mobo/"good" psu back into my antec case, hooked it all up, and zing, it's not posting.

Time to tear it out, double check that it's working outside of the case (it seemed to be running really strong just sitting on it's box, maybe it didn't want to leave it? lol), and if it's going strong outside the case, I'm just going to throw the whole thing into my sunbeam clear case and see what happens.

I'm perplexed again. Grr.

EDIT: It took 2 restarts before it would post, but it seems to be running strong outside of the case now. Hmmmmm.

Yeah sometimes if you short a component it will take a little while before it "works". I believe that's protection kicking in. :) I normally just let it sit for 15 mins and come back to it.

yeah, that's what it seems like. No idea what would be shorting it out in the antec case though.

Either way, I'm in the process of swapping it into my sunbeam case. (really hard to do while you're keeping your fingers crossed, lol.)

Most of the times it's the I/O shield or a motherboard standoff.
