I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

I understand what you're saying, and we kind of got off on a side discussion (no harm, no foul). In the scope of this thread, my point is that it's a mistake to take the opening price on a top level motherboard and worry that AM2 motherboards based on "nVidia's chipsets [might] really [be] this expensive." Pricing will definitely go down, and it's already debuting lower than what the last enthusiast chipset debuted for.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have broadly said "nVidia chipsets". I just look at the Intel boards and see the high chipset prices there too and get worried :(
If there is infact a price war, I just hope it is not done at the $200 level.

Most definitely - I just don't see an advantage to picking up an AM2 system right now. Prices will start dropping shortly, and for those that have to have the latest/greatest regardless of price or platform maturity, Conroe might be the ticket.

I tell you what though, THAT'S a legitimate concern. While PC pricing in general has plummeted compared to years gone by, the enthusiast level components seem to be steadily increasing...and then doubling. $500, $600, $700 for a high end videocard? And then double that for SLI? And the cost of a PSU capable of running two beastly GPUs? And Quad-SLI making an appearance at OEM boutiques? And 64MB soundcards costing up to $300+? And on top of it all, Physx processing trying to make a name (and dollar) for itself? And we won't even talk about the trend of high end processors (FX-60) not only debuting for $1K+, but staying at that price point...
