| Cheapo boards typically aren't worth it. I have done well with Neweggs "Open Box" boards ... bought 3 of them in the last 6 Months. The last one was an Abit Quad GT ... I got the complete setup with all the parts for $100 off their regular price. The other 2 boards I bought did not have all the other misc parts ... but I have plenty of cables etc. Bought an Asus P5B-Plus and a P5B-Deluxe ... all the boards were the 965 Chipset ... Very nice and stable chipset. So if you are looking for saving and know how to build ... the Quad GT and the P5B-Plus are decent boards. [as long as you get them for below $75] Main: 3ghzQ6600, Gemini2, IP35 Pro, PC 610W PSU, 4GB 6400, XP Pro, 500GB raid 0, 22" + (2)19" WS LCD's w/ Palit 9600 GT and Dual Core Notebook. Cambridge # 12 Portable, Rode Podcaster Fios-15mbs Server: 3.6ghzE3110 Big Typhoon, Gigabyte P35-DS4, 550VX PSU, 8GB DDR2 8000, XP 64, 320GB raid 0, (2) 19" WS LCD, XFX 9600GT, HT 550Pro, BoomTube Portable VidServer: 3ghzQ6600, Nirvana, BloodIron, PC 610W PSU, 4GB 6400, XP Pro, ATI, Bose Sound. | Sometimes folks just don't need much of a computer or really can't afford much. When that's the case, another cheapo route for a simple build is a barebones package. Newegg.com - MSI MBOX K9VGM-V AMD Socket AM2 AMD Athlon X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 VIA K9M890 2 x 240Pin VIA Chrome9 Barebone - Retail Add $25 for a gig of ram, $70 for a 250 GB hard drive, $30 for an optical drive, and $60-$70 for a little dual core CPU, load Ubuntu, and you've got a good little mom and pop desktop for less than 300 bucks. Core 2 Duo E6750 Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Abit IP35 Pro 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 EVGA 8800GT 500GB Seagate Barracuda 32MB Cache Coolermaster RC-690 OCZ StealthXStream 600 watt Acer AL2216W 22" monitor Windows XP Pro SP2 |
