Value RAM won't overclock very well, if at all
Not true. Corsair's Value line overclocks decently, sometime better than other companies PC3200 offerings. that aside, you should see how little difference there is when you O/C the processor and put the memory on a divider

2x 1GB leaves room for a future upgrade to 4GB if you start using a 64bit OS
True, but you never know wharts coming up next, or how the field will change. Will DDR3 arrive sooner than people think? Will DDR2 performance increase and prices decrease...making your current sticks obsolete?

To me at least, memory is no more important than any other system component

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

In the times (notice that's plural) when I've used Kingston's enthusiast offerings (HyperX series), I've ended up disappointed, and that's not good when considering all the competition in the high end market.

Thanks everyone, I now have someplace to start. I wasn't sure about having 4x512 sticks, but wanted more memory, and the shop didn't have 1 gig sticks at the time. All of your input is greatly appreciated.

I think we've forgotten one manufacturer here: G-Skill......they have pretty damn good sticks themselves, not to mention some of the older modules used some pretty coveted IC's that were good with the juice over tighter latencies (BH-5 or CH-5, I forget) at a good price. but yeah, Capper's top 5 is pretty well mine as well, can't go wrong with 'em! :D

I really like G.Skill. They move some nice kits that give you alot of bang for the buck. At the moment, they are selling a 2 GB kit that apparently overclocks pretty well and is one of the cheaper kits out there. In fact, Simple Inhibition purchased one a while back. He made a thread about it too which showed his overclocking.
