Ok,well I've got 11000 more songs to convert but after that is done I'll do some more adjusting :)

I'd better reinstall Prime95 :)

Well, I've got it overclocked to 396 FSB and 7x multiplier, so I'm gonna play some games a while to test it and overnight I'll run prime95 to see how it does.

Click the image to open in full size.

That temp is @ 100% CPU, with both cores having FAH @ 100% on them.

I'd say thats pretty impressive for my Heatsink. The Zalman CSP 7900 or whatever it was called :)
40°C on full. I'm impressed :)

Well, time to play some games, I'll post back with results.

[edit] Okay, ran bf2 perfectly. Ran torture test for Prime95 for 7 hours, 51 minutes and had 0 Errors and 0 Warnings.

I am kinda po'd though, cuz I can only go as low as a 2 x memory multiplier, and my Core multipliers are limited to 6-8, meaning now I can only go as far as my memory will allow.... hopefully it'll go over 800 mhz, otherwise I'm stuck at 2.77ghz. I'll have to do some more messing around with the numbers in 8x multipliers.

[edit#2] Aight, set the multiplier back to 8x, operating flawlessly at 3.17ghz, but I'm gonna torturetest it while I'm @ school. With 2 FAH's running for about 5 minutes, its 100% load at ~41-42°C, so i (yet again) am amazed at my heatsink :)
-=-=Torture test started at 6:49 AM =-=-

Default Re: Just bought 2GB of DDR2; How should I test it?

hate to dig this up but as I will be doing the same with my setup (although not quite as high on the OC)...
apparently all is well so far, fellow penguin?

Right now I am slated for E6300, 2GB DDR2-667 (not bought yet), and have an oversized scythe cooler in the package waiting to go.

My last build was a s939 and previous was a XP3000+ where PC3200 and the cpu 400MHz bus were matched, no need for dividers and such... I am still a bit confused on the dividers and such...
I understand the stuff at the level of the previous generation, cpu has a fsb of 400, DDR memory is rated at 200 base speed, they're compatible...

So the E6300 rated at 1860MHz = 266fsb (quad=1066)
266 x 7 multiplier = 1860MHz
now add in the memory and that confuses me
667 = 333fsb

so memory at 333 and cpu at 266...

so if I get this right, I can OC the cpu fsb to 333 and end up with a speed of 2331MHz with a divider of 1:1????? but both at stock speeds means it is 4:5????
sooo... damn too many numbers for this late
lowered multiplier to 6
6 x 266 = 1600
6 x 333 = 2000
7 x 333 = 2331 (effective quad fsb of 1332)

so I don't see why they feel the need to keep the fsb so low when obviously it can do an easy 2.3GHz.

Now I can see why some use 800-DDR2

6 x 400 = 2400
7 x 400 = 2800MHz for 1:1 (without OC the memory)
7 x 430 = 3GHz

wow

ok I think I have it... I am still sticking with the 667 and giving myself a small bump (and first real jump into OCing, as my XP3000+ is pretty well locked down)

edit:
ok looking over above info again, since I am getting 667 memory with the DS3:

stock:
266.5 x 2.5 = 667

OC:
326 x 2 = 652 (2282MHz cpu speed)
336 x 2 = 672 (2352MHz cpu speed, almost 500MHz OC)

am I correct or is my math screwy at this late hour?

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Default Re: Just bought 2GB of DDR2; How should I test it?

I have no idea what you just said. And its too late for me to read thru it. But this is how it works:

Memory Multiplier: This is FSB x Memory Multiplier = your memory's operating speed.
Mine is just under 800mhz. I am using a 2x multiplier @ 396 FSB, giving me 792 mhz Ram (DDr2-800)

CPU Clock Ratio: This is FSB x CPU clock ratio = your CPU speed.
Mine is set to 8x, and from 396 mhz FSB it comes to 3.17 ghz (i had to clock it down from 406 because my ram kept bugging out, i'll change my sig eventually)

The Absolute easiest way to figure this out is to do it in excel.
Example:
Click the image to open in full size.

If you don't know excel formulas, here they are in column by column (the way I have it set up there^

1) Just the number, in 10mhz increments
2) My memory multiplier, I just did 2 sets of 2.5 and 2 at different core speeds
3) To figure core speed, I just put this in:
Code:
=SUM(A2*8)
Where A2 was the corresponding FSB (same row) and 8 was the core multiplier I had chosen for that set.
4) To figure memory speed, I just put in:
Code:
=SUM(A2*B2)
Where A2 was the corresponding FSB (same row) and B2 was the corresponding memory multiplier (same row)
5) just put in the number so I knew what I was dealing with in that set.

Here is my excel spreadsheet if U wanna do it from that

Default Re: Just bought 2GB of DDR2; How should I test it?

but but but

the 2MB cache C2D's have a stock multiplier of 7 I thought?

Stock cpu, 1:1 divider = underclocked RAM
1860MHz / 7Mult = 266bus x 4(quad) = 1067 fsb / 2 (MM) = 533 (RAM freq.)

using 667 memory at stock speed and OC the cpu fsb
2352MHz / 7Mult = 336bus x 4(quad) = 1344 fsb / 2 (MM) = 672 (RAM freq.)

edit:

ok I made my own chart and see how it is
Stock:
E6300 = multiplier of 7
1865 / 7 = 266 x 4 = 1066 / 2 = 533 (1:1 RAM:CPU speed)

E6400 = multiplier of 8
2132 / 8 = 266 x 4 = 1066 / 2 = 533 (1:1 RAM:CPU speed)

OC (keeping stock multipliers and 1:1):

667 x 2 = 1334 / 4 = 333.5
(E6300) x 7 = 2334MHz
(E6400) x 8 = 2668MHz
800 x 2 = 1600 / 4 = 400
(E6300) x 7 = 2800
(E6400) x 8 = 3200

Or I guess memory speed / 2 x multiplier
667 / 2 = 333.5 x 7 = 2334.5

either way it all comes out in the end...

edit2:
Here is my chart that I made with the base of the memory speed

Just out of curiosity... is there a way I can make my multiplier x9 or my memory lower than 2x?

Is there a New BIOS or something?

I have Award Software International Inc
BIOS version F7

What revision DS3 do you have Zambini?

Assuming that is the same as the revision 2 motherboard listed on Gigabyte's website, they are up to F10 BIOS

that is something I am waiting on... to see which revision I get, 2 or 3... as i have heard of more stability with 3... but we will see

0.o nub I am.

I'll install that once I am done burning this damn dvd. :) Hopefully it'll allow a higher overclock with more available options for my memory :)

Now, this might be a dumb question....
but is there a way to overclock too much as to lose processing power or speed for your cpu, even though you have a higher clock?
