Just to throw a thought out there, if you want to overclock and test it, make sure you've unlinked your CPU and RAM FSB's and do the overclocks independent of the other. Then, as you overclock your ram, run memtest on it to make sure it's stable. I actually have my ram set about 30Mhz over where it failed memtest, but it's still stable.

Well, that's only possible by raising the CPU:RAM divider, but changing the processor's FSB is still going to change the speed of the RAM. So it is by changing the divider to make the RAM run slower than its rated speed that you can then have that much headroom (whatever the speed difference is between the rated stock speed of the RAM and the lower speed it is running at after changing the divider). Check out the Memory Divider Table for a rundown on the most common dividers and memory speeds to see what the resulting frequency you memory will actually be running at.

I have no idea what that says.

So lets (aka someone who knows what they're talking about) figure this out
I have 266 fsb right now x 8 multiplier = 2.13 ghz
Memory is 800mhz

I want to go back to what I have been running for a while.
346 fsb x 8 = 2.78 ghz

How do I read that chart so I know what to do for that?

On my 680i, I can unlink the ram and CPU FSB's, no dividers to worry about. On my AMD rig, I have to use the memory divider, but will have to look into the Bios on that as I've not messed with it for some time. Since my son is currently on there playing World of Warcraft, it may be awhile before I can answer you.

I do know that someone here, maybe Blake, throughly explained it to another member. Do a search of these forums for the thread. Otherwise, do a search of your mobo. There's tons of overclocking stuff out there for the DS3.

Hey, just out of curiosity, I was looking @ my CPU-Z today and noticed it says my memory is @ 400mhz.....

isnt it supposed to be 800mhz?

=> CPUZ Readout

Blake will eat me if I'm wrong, but that is correct. That is the real clock for your memory, which is what cpu-z dislplays, the effective clock will be 2x that, or 800MHz. So your good to go :D

anyways, try the 667MHz (4:5) divider, which should give you a bus speed of about 868MHz for the RAM. If that's unstable, try 533MHz (1:1), which should give you a bus speed of about 693MHz. If you can find an option to unlink the bus speed from the FSB, then do that and just the memory to run at 800MHz

Well here's what my BIOS screen looks like.

Is it there?

Doesn't look like that is the screen that enables you to unlink the FSB and the memory speed... you may not have it at all.

I found an excellent review on Hardwarezone.com
www.hardwarezone.com® :: Articles - Coolest Hardware, Hottest Reviews

I'm reading it now, They got a 6300 to 3+ ghz.

So I think they know what they're doing. I'll read on. They mentioned a memory divider too, so it is possible with this.

Quote:
For our overclocking tests on the GA-965P-DS3, we used the infamous Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 processor, reduced the multiplier to 6x and set the memory divider at its lowest before we tried to ramp up the motherboard FSB.
I don't know where though.....

I also found a great explanation of overclocking and all sorts of stuff.
