Default Re: Just bought 2GB of DDR2; How should I test it?

Sorry I didn't post it. Thought I had already posted.

Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Desktop Memory - Retail

TWIN2X2048-6400C4

Exact same as the one I have already, except the one I have now is
TWIN2X512-6400C4

I tried it with 1 of the new sticks and it wouldn't boot.

I'll keep mucking around with it though. I'm running on just the 2 x 1gb now, in slots 1 & 3 and it seems fine. I'm gonna run the OCCT test while I eat dinner. I'll post the results when I return in ~30 minutes

Well I have to make my lunch. Then eat it. Then clean it up.

I take time to enjoy my food, too :)

Well, my ram came in today, I tested it, Slots 1 & 3 (red & red) were loaded with the new sticks. The slots 2 & 4 were loaded with my old 512's

Got a crapload of errors running memtest, all of em were on test #5.

Took out the 512s, and ran for 30 minutes, found 0 errors and one complete test. I figure I'd run normally till tonight where I'd try something else

While I was booting into memtest, I thought about how I overclocked my FSB by 100 mhz... and I was thinking if that could be the reason this ram doesn't like working.

Is it? Is it possible for overclocking a c2duo 6400 by 100mhz fsb (2.13ghz => 2.7 ghz) is responsible for this not working?

Or is this another set of bad ram? Or are the two 512's supposed to be in the first channels?

I'm out of ideas, seeing as I have no time to test each theory. What do you guys think the reason is?

... So you tested your RAM at OVERCLOCKED speeds, tested it, and it didn't work? Of course that's the problem! If it doesn't run at stock, then its bad RAM. Right now the problem is the overclock, its just not stable and your hardware can't handle it.

It's not my ram, its my CPU. Or is that what you meant?

If it is; Thank you, slap myself in the face for being such a ****, and I'll fix it once I'm done with my web design final.

Basically... You cannot test a ram to see if it's "good" at an overclocked setting. Revert all your BIOS settings to stock so that everything is at it's default setting. Then run Memtest and see if it errors out.

If you change the frequency of the FSB, you change the RAM frequency. Take a look in cpu-z to see.

I just played some CSS and did some flash editing (just a 25mb .fla file) and
have a bunch of services runnin and it seems to keep things nice n smooth.

The ultimate test: BF2!! Bum bum bum. (or bf2142)

I'll play some of that, or some CoH if someone comes online who wants to play, and that'll b my official benchmark. IF those run smoothly, then the ram is definitely good.

Note; I'm gonna memtest it overnight, see if any more errors come up.
