| T-Rex | I can honestly say i've never saw a system without at least 1 little hiccup once in a while. Those are things that happen, even on the beefiest systems. As for your overclock, it's already great. 2.6ghz, and chances are YES you'll need to give it more voltage. However, I'd lower change your RAM divider to lower it's frequency, because there's chances it is what is "holding you down". |

| Lets see, I have the duel core optimizer installed, and AMD CPU driver version 1.3.2.0 (5/27/06), and Catalyst 7.1. It doesn't matter what game I throw in, HL2, Doom3, Sin emergence, there is still stuttering. While it's not like playing Oblivion with 128mb of ram, there is more then 1 little hiccup once in a while. For example, in Sin emergence, I'll load up a game and look around--it starts hiccuping like I'm using hotmail storage space in place of physical ram (not literally). The framerates are fine, it's just the damn stuttering that gets my goat. With all the horsepower and memory behind it, doesn't make sense--might as well play games on an Apple IIe. Better yet, I'll just rip out the sticks and play with no ram. Who needs ram when it stutters no matter how much you stuff in! Should I just manually expand the capacity to 6gb of ram...8...24....LARS!! LARS!!!!! c AMD Athlon64 X2 3800 (Manchester) @ 2500 ATI A8R-MVP 2gb Mushkin extreme XP4000 DDR @ 250*2 (3-4-3-8) Geforce 8800gt 512 Coolermaster Praetorian 730/Aquagate Mini R80 When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. |

Also, try setting all the 3D options in the Catalyst Control Center to default and see if the problem persists. | |

| There are a few silly things running in the background that take little ram. I can start a game up, windowskey it out and task manager says there's still about a gig worth that's free. The only thing I have running clock cycles is speedfan and ATI tool and i doubt they are taxing on the system. Actually, does anyone know how I can change the clockspeed of my Radeon without having ATI tool running? When I shut it down, the catalyst control reads the clockspeed as below the stock--which is quite amazing in and of itself. Which is even more intense is the fact that catalyst now says I cannot use overdrive because it's not been properly initialized--says to "try again later"! Furthermore, even more flabbergasting, now when I open up catalyst, the overdrive tab isn't there anymore! It's gone, disappeared. Why is it that everytime I fiddle around with my pc I end up having to hold back puke? Anyway, are you saying that when you start up a game like Fear or Oblivion, you don't experience any stuttering? c AMD Athlon64 X2 3800 (Manchester) @ 2500 ATI A8R-MVP 2gb Mushkin extreme XP4000 DDR @ 250*2 (3-4-3-8) Geforce 8800gt 512 Coolermaster Praetorian 730/Aquagate Mini R80 When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. |

| Modder-ator | Well, when I first got up and running on this dual core 3800 X2 system, my games would have the "hiccups" like you are talking about and I could not for the life of me figure it out. Finally, I installed the AMD Dual Core Driver first and then the Dual Core Optimizer right after and the stuttering went away. And your card is probably throttling the clock speed down because it is in 2D mode on the desktop to reduce power/heat, it should (will) go back up once a 3D application is started. Kind of like AMD's Cool 'n' Quiet or Intel's Speedstep. Which makes me think of something, do you have Cool 'n' Quiet enabled on your system? Try disbling it in the BIOS and see if that makes a difference. |
