Default Re: x2 3800 overclock question

Thanks for the advice fellas. Something strange is going on with my ram. CPUz and EVEREST says I have PC3200 (200 MHz) Mushkin ram.

I got and installed The eXtreme Performance 2GB XP4000 (DDR500). Why does it say PC3200? Just for the record, I searched the id number of my ram on the website: http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/...ail.asp?id=245

This obviously something I don't know here haha. In your opinion, what should I max everything out at? (x2 3800, x1800xt512)

Thanks in advance,
c

The number that CPUz and Everest reports is what your memory is currently running at. The DDR500 spec is what the ram is gaurenteed to run at.

I noticed that my memory timings are different from those in the HL Mushkin ram review. Before I screw with any of the timings (last time I did, I had to reset jumpers to get the system back)--my

Bank Cycle Time (Trc) is at 12 clocks, though I have no idea what this means, the ram in the review Bank Cycle Time is at 7 clocks.
Also, my ram DRAM idle Timer is at 16 clocks, as opposed to the reviews 256. I'm not going to pretend I know what these settings are or how they effect performance. Should I go in the bios and change my settings?

Those don't seem to be the primary timings, so I wouldn't worry about it too much as your numbers seem about on average for what I've usually seen with my DDR memory too.

And did you mean to say 26 or 25 instead of 256??

In the review here, it says 256 for the DRAM idle timer, whatever that is. Mine is at 16.

Any opinions on my current setup? :
core 2600
bus 260
HT Link 1040
Ram 260 (3-4-3-8)
Radeon x1800xt512 @ 654/846 from (625/750 stock)

I ran prime95 on torture blend for 8 hours the results were mint at 47 degrees. No problems with games so far...Any suggestions?

Thanks fellas.

That's a very solid running setup ya got there and near the max overclock of many 3800 Manchester chips. Are you happy with the results or were you still hoping for more?

I will second that, that is some real good numbers and being stable after 8 hours, just can't beat that!!!!

I have a sneaking suspicion that if I want to go any higher then 2.6, I'll have to fiddle with the voltage--which makes me nervous. Maybe I'll try it out at 2.66 but with the CPU at 2.7, HT at 1080, ram/bus at 270, the system was unable to pass p95 without errors although there were no crashes or excessive temps.

I've got another issue I've been trying to make sense of for many years. Is it just my equipment that stutters during gameplay? The "lack-of-ram-stutter"--you know the deal. Sweet Jesus, isn't 2gig of ram and 512 graphics ram enough!? It never fails. Just for the record, I remember reading older HardOCP reviews of Doom3 and seeing how they achived gameplay (on ultra) with no hiccups whatsoever with less equipt systems then mine. God all mighty, is it a curse or is that how it is?

Sounds like your hardware is more than capable of playing Doom 3. Please list your hardware, or better yet, make a signature (which is actually mandatory)...

Also, I had some stuttering issues with a game a while back and downloaded and installed the AMD dual core driver and dual core optimizer and it fixed the problem. Maybe you should try that too...
