Just as a general FYI, that price point Intel quoted were for bulk sales, such as lots of 1000 that vendors purchase. The retail prices you were/are seeing are at the discretion of the e-tailers.

Ah okay, thanks for the clarification, Paul. =)

Also, sorry for bumping a really old thread. I was trying to figure out whether or not to start a new thread or renew this one. Guess next time I'll just start a new post.

wow thats about the price I paid for me E6600 a few months back from Newegg... now they have the Q6600 for the same price...
I may have to look into a P35 and Q6600 if my DS3 keeps giving me fits

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I believe Newegg's pricing is done by computer. If people continue to buy them at a very quick rate, they increase like this. Other places, will still have them at the good old ~$300.

ex. tankguys, eagle, etc.

EDIT: i think this thread was for a long time ago, so my post would be irrelevant.

Newegg's price has been pretty stable at $280 (LOL, it's like overclocking; is Newegg's price stable or not?) for the past week or so, maybe longer. I think it was just that mad scramble when they first came out that drove the price up. One thing I do wish Newegg does: list the stepping revision and Tankguys, etc.

i can't remember. While back when the price shot up to ~350 or something, we had a discussion about this on ocf.
