| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | what good is an "unlocked multi"...when there is no overclocking headroom? Whats the actual difference of running 200FSB/HTT @ a 14 multi as opposed to a 13X @ 225FSB/HTT? Trust me, there is very little difference, and in fact you are almost misinforming people on the subject. "Unlocked multis" are worthless in this day and age of highly overclockable RAM and motherboards. Look around the net, and you are seeing the same results with budget or mid ranged processors that you are seeing with the FX series (with the exception of a few cherry picked review samples under phase) INTEL QX9650 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 8GB PC2-8500 // BFG GTX260 MaxCore // DD Torture Rack // Seagate 750GB HDD // OCZ Vendetta // PC Power & Cooling 620W PSU |

| I"m all for buying the mid-range processor and OCing the heck out of it! Look what a 275.00 E6400 can do with some overclocking. Spank all the 'High-end' Precessors. I see no use to spend $1000.00 for a CPU when I can spend $200.00/$250.00, tweak it and even kill it by shooting too much voltage into it. In the bottom line, it's still less expensive than buying the big one and honestly, so much more fun. :) Like Capper said, it's worthless. A good motherboard now takes up to crazy HTT/FSB, and every core has it's maximum. Furthermore, alot of different cores top off at around the same point, technology still being the same inside under the IHS... Even AMD Dual core, while being great technology, is not so extreme as people make it look like (comparing it to A64 single core). My 3700+ clocked at 2.8ghz and more can hold a fair fight versus a 4800+ X2, and even win under certain circumstances. While I am aware that you can bring alot of dual core CPUs to around 2.6ghz, thus taking the hand over a single core clocked at 2.8ghz, the real world performance gain is somewhat "minimal", to some extent. I am very sorry to say that going from 2.4ghz to 2.6ghz on a dual core will not give you 20 frames per second in games, or cut your encoding time by an half. :P Sometimes I just think we're maniacs, squeezing the last 3DMark point even if it means burning our video card(s) memory or getting the best SuperPI time even if you need to wear a winter suit in your room. ![]() Edit: I need to lay off the smileys. | |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | LOL. I hardly OC anymore, I even run my main system at stock 24/7 with air cooling... and once I switch over to Conroe, will probably moderately O/C it......unless you are a benchmarking whore, you won't be able to tell the difference when Paul steals your kills at CS:S INTEL QX9650 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 8GB PC2-8500 // BFG GTX260 MaxCore // DD Torture Rack // Seagate 750GB HDD // OCZ Vendetta // PC Power & Cooling 620W PSU |

I honestly do see a difference, not only in games but also in applications and even Windows. It's very subtle, the casual user probably wouldn't see it. Without wanting to sound corny, I have hawk eyes. That's right. 8)

| Rich, when current AMD CPU's are put under extreme cooling, dry ice, LN2, cascades,etc...They will "cold bug" wich means they will error out at a certain HTT speed and temp, at -90*C temps, the cold bug can be as low as 210MHz HTT, but they will still clock awsomely buy cranking the multiplier up, hence why most WR amd shots have low HTT with high multiplier. Some chips are so bad that they will cold bug at +21*C at ~270HTT, but ocne they warm up, they can do 300HTT or more Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 |

The only difference I can see in CS:S is when the bomb goes off, the physics are smooth compared to Pentium D. ![]() Hmm... I'm starting to see a trend here. Rich buys a new CPU, gives it to simple, simple gives his to Justin, Justin gives his to me, and I give mine to whomever it was that was looking for a 939 CPU. It'll work out perfectly! :P
