Opty 165 FTW! cant complain about an easy overclock to 2.6ghz on air at a cost of $330 (FX60 was $1000 at the time) ill prolly stick with this system too when i get back from the desert. just throw in a DX10 video card and ill be good to go (of course i just may completely rebuild depending where technology is at when i get home :P)

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Socket 939 is stable and mature, whereas AM2 is witnessing some initial growing pains. And keep in mind that s939's install base is huge, so the bulk of those votes probably come from current s939 owners. And finally, the way the question was worded seems to lead to a yes vote - they didn't ask which socket users would prefer, but if they'd be interested in a s939 version of available.

In theory, but in practice, it's basically just as fast as AM2. An enthusiast can build a s939 rig that kicks the crap out of just about any available app, and thanks to PCI-E slots and SLI, that will still be true several months from now.

Price be damned though - if I had a $1000 to blow on a processor, I'd be singing 'hello Core 2 Duo' and 'Hasta la vista s939/AM2.' :P

Heh that's the thing. We probably all have more than 1K in our bank accounts, but spending this on a CPU?! You can get almost the same performance for half the price, thanks to "Not extreme" versions CPU's.

Well, their R&D budget has to come from somewhere. I'm just glad that I'm not paying for it GO BUDGET CPUs! :P

Heh! I wonder how much money they make on this Extreme CPU's. I wish I could make that much on them, because I make more money selling $4 mice for $9.99 than selling CPU's (that's percent wise, obviously).

Same with buying an X6800, why? Again, it makes much more sense to buy a X6600 or a 5000+ and tweak it...put the extra money into a good memory kit, or better yet a high end video card
well, if you were to choose between top of the line, the only other equivilent would be the x6800, but if it was up to me to spend the money i'd easily go for the E6600 and real fast ddr-2 ram.

LOL, thats a good one....all the AMD AM2 processors suffer from the cold bug, and almost all the s939 FX-60s did as well.
Justin, why should people buy a companies high end processor??!!! The only people who buy them are the ones who have no idea what they are doing but want the best (people who buy Falcon, HP, Dell, etc) or those who don't OC at all.. Most enthusiast have learned by this point in time that there is no overclocking headroom in these high end chips
