Default Re: Question for anyone with LGA775 cpu

Seeing as how I was editing video/converting from Mpeg4 to Divx on an AMD T-bird 1600 CPU, I think you'll do just fine there.

I've done a smattering of video editting (and still do), and have noticed that besides the clock speed of the CPU the L2 cache and amount of RAM is what makes or break an editting system.

Priorities for an edit box:
  1. CPU speed
  2. CPU L2 cache (the more, the better)
  3. RAM, amount of, and speed
  4. HDD capacity and speed

Video really stresses the sub-system too, so the faster the bus (without saturation) the better. Dedicated video workstations are not cheap, and the reason is listed above.

I'd go with any C2D 6x00 system with at least 4MB L2, 2GB DDRII-800 RAM minimum and dual 500GB 7,200 RPM HDD's in a RAID array. And of course a speedy, large memory, video card really helps but is not as important as you'd think.

Intel C2D 6550
Asus P5Q Pro
OCZ Platinum DDR2 800 2 x 2 GB
EVGA GTX260 216
Samsung SyncMaster 930B
1 x WD3200 2 x WD2000JD
HP DVD640
Corsair 750TX
Win XP Home SP3

Well, we have 3ghz on the cpu, and 2MB L2 if I recall right, and I will definately bump up the RAM. There is already 160GB on the main hdd, so all I need is another drive. Maybe I'll get two more hdd's in a large capacity, so she doesn't have worry about taxing her main drive. Plus I want her to have a better video card anyway. And since her mobo supports AGP 8x AND PCIe, that's a plus...easy to change the platform there.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!
