It would perform quite well in games because it has the extra L2 cache like your San Diego; but pitted against the 3700+ San Diego at stock speeds, the 3700 would probably win out only because it has a faster clock speed. But since you obviously aren't afraid to overclock, you can get that Opteron 165 up to the same speeds your 3700 San Diego. and you will be smokin'. But again, comparing a single core and dual core chip of the same architecture, clock speed, and L2 Cache size, you really won't see much (if any) difference in gaming performance. The Opteron is basically two downclocked San Diego's slapped together under the same IHS.

I upgraded from a 3700+ to an Opteron 165 and while I didnt notice any improvement with games I did notice a heck of a difference when it came to multi-tasking. The Opteron is a heck of a chip and even the worst steppings can hit around 2.5ghz or so with some overclocking.
