| The stepping on the cpu is simply a representation of its build information. It could be built different ways, different places, etc. Steppings are great to look at it because it can really have a toll on the overall performance of the chip, and definitely its overclockability. For example, the days of the insane Socket 939 Opteron chips, the CABBE (or CABEE...something similar) was one of the best OCers, definitely noticeably more than most of the other steppings. |
