Has anyone read the reviews at Tom's Hardware? I don't know enough about these things to evaluate their findings, but found it an interesting read, especially:

The bottom line for me is that I'm still ticked off after they abandoned all of us skt 939 owners.

Tom's also said that the XE840 (an old Intel P4 CPU) was a better performer than the Sk939 CPUs that were out at the time despite the fact that the XE840 rebooted several times durring the testing on its own and failed to beat AMD in every test but Video Encoding.
I would not trust Tom's as far as I could comfortably spit out a dead rat.

That is a pretty dumb blanket statement, I disagree with that quote. An AM2+ processor is no more a long term than a Penryn. Both Intel and AMD are coming out with a new socket with the next generation of processors. Sure AMD plans a revision before AM3 and I don't think Intel does, but that's about it. If anything, the Intel would be the better long-term choice because it performs better and has the same life expectancy.

EDIT:
I just discovered that AM3 processor will feature DDR2 and DDR3 support and will be compatible with AM2+ and AM2 as well.

Sorry, but Tom's Hardware lost all credibility a very long time ago.

Ditto. To the point that to some "enthusiast" clients I'm easy with i'll straight tell them that "it is shit".
Most of those people take it easily, and they even have personal experiences where their conclusion and Tom's conclusion mismatch...
Pretty poor.

S939 FTW!
Just kidding, I knew they shoulda stayed with that core, but nooooo had to follow and flounder with ati. This is all jokes, but I did shed a tear about them halting production on the 939.

Thats a look at most executive offices, just a continuation of college. Kind of like the White House executive office.
