That is a popular argument, but in the grand scheme of how the world really works.....how much sense does that make?

You'll always have AMD filling the nitch they filled before S939, offering a budget alternative to those who don't want INTEL chips. And god forbid, anything happen to AMD, there will always be someone else to step in and fill the budget niche. The only people who MIGHT be affected are the top 1% of people using computers....enthusiasts.

To me, its gone from an interesting discussion on a one company system to a "Sky is falling" paranoia, with a lot of people missing the big picture.

INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU

So, it would seem that we have a company for every price point... Intel for the high end, and AMD for the lower end. Is that really a good thing?

Intel for high end, AMD for middle ground and VIA for low end.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I'm now reading that some 590 SLI boards like the one I'm using won't be supporting Phenom. I wonder if this is effecting any other AM2 boards, and if so thats a major killer to the Phenom market right there. If people need a new board, they'll just go Intel.

I don't know, from what I have been reading, all of the 590's will support the new cpu's, just some of the mobo manufactures will take longer than others to come out with the bios update. Asus, and Gigabyte have already came out with the bios flash, but Asus's is having some real issues.............Imagine that

If physics acceleration (3d Games) is ever incorporated into the CPU AMD "should" have a huge advantage over Intel with them owning ATI. All they need is software supprot to follow through ...... i think it will be very interesting to see how the next few cpu/chipset designs develop

X6800 @ 3.6Ghz
Asus P5K Premium
Leadtek 8800GTX @ 659/960
2gb OCZ Spec Ops @1066 5/5/5/15

Doesn't the CPU already do physics? I mean, the only reason for a physics card is to take the load off the CPU... Right?

I think he means hardware based Physics being offloaded into a core deisgned to do just that.
