The Quad core I got has Intel Confidential printed on the IHS.
CPU-Z tells me that the stepping is B0.

I've only started to OC the thing (right now at 2.8). I have a couple of mobos I could use. The current mobo is GA-965P-S3 Rev.1.0 and the new one is GA-965P-DS3 Rev 3.3 (I picked up 2 open box specials from Newegg).
I also have a couple of heatsinks I could play with. A Zalman 9700 and a Gemin II.

Intel E8400 @ 4.05GHZ - EP35-DS3P
Zalman 9700NT - 4 Gig Mushkin DDR2-1066
Two Sapphire HD 4870 512mb in CrossFire
PC P & C 750 watt - Samsung 216BW LCD
Samsung DVD-RW - Logitec Z-640 speakers
Linksys WRT54GL Router - CM 690 Case
Seagate 250gig - Vista Home Premium 64bit

that revision 3.3 should be a good option for overclocking, the B0 stepping is an older stepping, I'd say it comparable to the CPU I used for our review

4GB DDR3-1600
Sapphire HD 3870X2
Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C)

Ooo YH I love your thinking, and it's already been done my amigo!

EDIT:

Actually, I'll be doing a total revamp of the whole signature soon enough. I can't stay with one design for too long :P

EDIT2:

Yes, ES chips are really nice - I'm pretty sure they all have unlocked multipliers so that's really nice. Go nuts on the OCing with that one!! I already have my Q6600 @ 2.7GHz with NO SETTINGS TOUCHED except the FSB went from 266 to 300. Stock cooler, voltages, EVERYTHING. Thing is there is an average temp of about 45*C on all cores for IDLE - the Intel stock cooler definitely isn't meant for overclocking, to say the least. Problem is I won't have cash for a while to get a sufficient cooler. Had to bust it all on the motherboard and I have to keep the rest I have left (which isn't much). I'm hoping, though, to get my hands on either a GeminII, Thermaltake V1, or ZALMAN CNPS9x00 soon enough - or maybe even a Big Typhoon (VX?). In any case, I'll post results...well whenever I can!

I've now got a Q6600 myself. Mine is the G0 stepping though. I'm using it to test a new P35 DDR3 mobo atm. So far, the CPU has been very flexible in all the low end overclocking I have done to test the range of the memory kit I'm doing at the same time. The highest I've had it so far has been 2.8Ghz. I'm using a TT Big Typhoon, not the VX model though. Temps have just barely cracked 50*C once. Loaded at stock clocks it's in the 39-41*C range. I would have gotten the CNPS9700, but I had very limited funds and got this instead. No complaints for having done so either and our review of it is spot on.

As usual.

Q6600@ 3.2GHz w/ CNPS9700 | EVGA 780i | 2Gb Corsair DDR2-800 | EVGA GTX 280 1Gb Video | 1x WD 640Gb HDD, 2x Seagate 400Gb HDD, 1x250Gb WD | 2x Samsung SH-203B Opticals | Antec 900 | ABS/Tagan BZ700 700W PSU
