well. everyone says that dual cores won't help but in 2008 they will. When AMD releases K8L they use reverse Hyperthreading. I read a short confusing article but it means that they are both on the same die or soemthing and they work as one. As a result, all applications recieve the advantage of having 2 cores, not just the multi-threaded programs. So although they may not be worht it right now, they will make it worth it soon.

I've heard a little bit about this "reverse hyperthreading" and it seems like a very good idea indeed. But like everything, there are always positives and negatives. Similar to how Hyperthreading can hinder performance in some situations on the P4, this reverse Hyperthreading might somehow hurt performance on K8L. We just won't know until we get closer to launch date, AMD has a reputation for not giving out very much information too far in advance...

It basically all comes down to what you use your computer for.

Blake: The intel badaxe rev 304 w\some bios hacks is running conroe @ like 460mhz FSB! Newer rev of the badaxe will run Conroe out of the box. Asus has a 965 based board that we've seen some picture of at tech shows.
@ everyone: Dual-Core CPU have set the processor standar to a new level. I think the performance impact they have over single core is stunning. For a person who multi-task DC is great. Quaad-core may be too much for the desktop user. I know that when I am writing a review, there are a number of windows open like ifanview(picture resizer), IE(2 instances), word(to type big words in so I don't misspell them), picture previewer, msn explorer(email) and perhaps an online streaming radio channel. My 920 get's a work out!
If you guys want take a look at this thread: http://hardwarelogic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1738
hit the link I posted in there. It's a good map of intels plans from now untill Q2 of 07'.

Ranger, you have a need of dual core but I doubt that your the average computer user. From what I've seen outside of these forums that have above average users most people use a computer for banking, photo storage, music, e-mail and internet.
