Steppings (or Core Stepping) refer to the version of the processor that was produced. Typically, the newer the stepping, the better improvements that have been made to the processor over the older ones. In this case, the stepping of the Q6600 of B3 to G0 represents an improvement of thermal properties. This new Q6600 G0 stepping version may lead to reduced heat signatures and therefore better overclockability.

Check out THIS Intel alert release concerning the G0 stepping for the Q6600 and some Xeon processors for more information.
