The extra cache is known to help tremendously in folding@home while running the SMP client (either Win or Linux).

My 4300, even oc'd is struggling on the new work units.

go the e4300, save the dollars, and o/c the heck out of it, i've seen people overclockit on air 2 3.2ghz using a thermalright ultra 120, corsair xms2 pc6400, and gigabyte ga-965-ds3p, with a fan atttached of course. you could easily change the ram out in favour of something cheaper, but dunno which brand as my knowledge on ram is fairly limited
