Yeah, I told him earlier that he should do it if he wants to.

And he has a Dimension 8300 BTW. Up to 3.0GHz Prescotts are guaranteed to work no matter what. But anything higher than that had a problem unless you got the second gen of the D8300.

Ah yes, i remeber that guy on the dell forums putting the P4 3.2 EE or whatever it was in his D8300. simply insane

how much ram do you have? you might get more perforance by getting more ram.



E2140 @ 375 x 8 = 3.0ghz

No, isn't the Corsair CAS2.5? The stock RAM is CAS3.

hmmm. what video card do you have? Ever concider overclocking with software?

EDIT: an 800xl seems fine until you get another whole new system. I think overclocking that northwood is the best thing right now.

Unfortunately I cannot OC my CPU because its a Dell. However, I've been informed that with a BIOS update, I can safely get a 3.2GHZ Prescott with a new dual-pipe heatsink.

you can't even oc with software? a 600mhz increase isn't bad but it still isn't much on the INTEL side of things.

You'd definetly want to get some better cooling for that rig before you try to OC it. A case with better airflow would be helpful too.

yeah, theres a lot more to a good, stable OC than just cranking up the voltages and FSB......everything starts with cooling
