| F Ucn rd dis U mst uzUNIX | Well, it's good for what I had intended it for. The mATX takes it and runs with it, and at much lower volts than the 8400 that was pulled out of it. I'm constantly trying to keep the heat down in there, so it's a win in my book. In actual use versus benchmarks, and at the same speed, I didn't see any difference really. About 1.5 seconds slower in DVD encoding, Maya kinda tripped on a compile and added about half a minute to it rendering, but that wasn't what the box was for so it's cool. Games don't care which CPU was in, and the media porting and tasks it does don't either. In the desktop, it's legs got stretched this morning. Being brave, I tried 9x500 with 1.44v and booted right in with nothing else changed and in a P5K-E DDR2 board. Ok, so I tried a low vCore of 1.08, and it went to 3.2Ghz. Skipped further playing in that box and shot for another one in the Premium board, walking up this time. 9.5 x 555 and 1.55 vCore...a fairly large 5.27Ghz run for a $135 proc. Seems like it'd do more, but the volts to make it happen rise really steep after 5Ghz. The next step to 560 wouldn't take unless 1.6v was punched in, and that's a bit rich for my blood. It's on it's first hour of a second burn attempt. I didn't seat it right I guess the first time and she got hot and locked. Looks like it touched 66C as the last logged temp, but is now cruising along at 56C and pretty steady so far (water). I hadn't gotten the 8400 to do this, so ya...it's well worth it for an overclocker's toy. I'd be more happy with the E8400 at 4Ghz though, so still keeping that in the larger box. I really wouldn't like having a 5Ghz proc and hoping for long term stability. Even if the CPU could hang, HDD errors and general brutality on the system as a whole worries me. |

| Nice, what cooling are you using? I've gotten mine up to 3.8, but that's only with a 1.375 vCore and the temps get pretty high with the Zalman Reserator1. This chip is a bangin' value. Unless someone really needs the extra L2 cache from an 8 series there is almost no reason not to buy this chip. |

| F Ucn rd dis U mst uzUNIX | The Repsol P5K-E is the old Danger Den TDX, single 120mm BiX, with two low heat additive 3870's...and a Panaflo fan on the rad, CM crossflo fan in the case. Limited at best. The Ducatisti build is in the sig, Feser TFC X-change 240, MC-TDX block, huge freaking reservoir, Panflo M1-Bx's, and the cards, memory, and HDD's on a minor 3/8" loop. General case cooling is Noctua NF-P12's at the HDD rack, at the rear exhaust, and on the BiX for the second loop (TJ09, so right there at the side grills, after the HDD cage). I think vCore will kill this thing in the long run, hence my fear of it over 4Ghz. The 8400 does it too, and better fit for an all around desktop performer. Like you say though...banging value. I could trash one and get another for what the 8400 still costs. The risk is relative, but ability definitely there. It's burned enough to call it good. Coming out and getting put back in the SFF. Still gotta get it low volted at 3-3.2Ghz and get it folding. GF coming home, and I'm sure she'll want to play golf or poker pretty soon. Doesn't know it's ripped apart, and hate getting slapped on the back of the head. Last edited by Boy'nBlack; May 25th, 2008 at 16:48. |

There's the E8190 announced, 2.66GHz, 6MB, 8x ratio, 1333MHz FSB which is a E8200 without C1E and vanderpool. I wonder how much this one will be. | |

| socket 939 junkie | it's more than likely an OEM only chip like the E6540. announced, but never seen 0_o |

| T-Rex | Yeah it is. Both the E6540 and E8190 are OEM order only. Doesn't mean some people can't get one. ;P |
