| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | Quote:
2) Yes, AMD acquired ATI. That's touched on in a few (if not all) of those above links. | |

HARDOCP has an interesting article up. It kind goes against the conventional thinking on AMD right now, and I can't say I really agree with it...... although it does make some very good points. [H] Enthusiast - State of the Silicon Union - Q207 I think something a lot of people are overlooking is how small the extreme enthusiast market is. By that, I'm referring to the extreme enthusiast as the guy who has to have the absolute best, regardless of the price, and who will upgrade almost constantly. Barcelona may be the awesome product that people are anticipating, but is it going to be so much more than Penryn that people are going to keep waiting for it? Is it going to be enough to draw everyone back to AMD, and have them change basically their entire system? INTEL has another draw, besides the CPU, their chipsets are arguably the besy made. AMD hit the jackpot with their X2 processors and the NForce 4 chipset, but the follow ups have proven rather lackluster.......I think the chipsets are something to really keep in mind, as they going to have a pretty big impact on the CPU market, and how people respond to Penryn and Barcelona. If ATI's next chipset isn't an overwhelming success, and they haven't really been to this point, I think AMD is going to have some serious issues. | So whens ATi's first DX10 gfx card out? they cant leave it to late but the can't rush its compleation. The gfx card chipset could save AMD or be their downfall.... |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | no, the GPUs won't have that much of an impact....some but it won't be the downfall....ATI has struggled to keep up with NVIDIA for awhile now. It comes down to the CPU and the chipsets really INTEL QX9650 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 8GB PC2-8500 // BFG GTX260 MaxCore // DD Torture Rack // Seagate 750GB HDD // OCZ Vendetta // PC Power & Cooling 620W PSU |

| Modder-ator | Agreed. You have to have a processor and you have to have a chipset to build a computer, you don't necessarily have to have an add-in video card (assuming you can use onboard video). |

| i never used AMD before except in a laptop package, like the one i use to have SEMPRON i believe... but like capper said there will be no downfall but rather the technology just keep up with each other's competition, and SLI/Crossfire, i thought of that but money wise like most of people here advise that you rather spend more money on your CPU/MoBo/RAM or the latest VideoCard... anyway if you got the luxury of money, then go for it... (i don't have that, talking the money luxury, thats why i personally don't advise SLI/Crossfire) Abit IP35-E C2D E6750 G0 @ 2.66ghz [TR Ultra120EX] EVAG 8800GTS [TR HR03] Corsair [2gbDual@800] 820GB HDD[120/200/500] Antec TP 550W Silverstone Temjin 09 Saitek Eclipse1 & Razer DeathAdder Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit |

| Modder-ator | No one really knows for sure yet (and if they do, they are under NDA). Only time will tell, I think we should see the new AMD ATI video cards out in the next few months or so... |

| socket 939 junkie | i think that amd's buyout of ati was a too early or late depending on how you look at it. had amd bought them when the X2 was king of the hill, they wouldnt be in as bad of a shape theyre in now (assuming they paid the same price of course) i dont think it was a bad move on there part, just mis-timed. think about it, intel has had their own in-house chipsets for years now where as amd has almost exclusively had to rely on outside sources for theirs. now amd has its own chipset design team which should hopefully cover that one aspect they've always been lacking in. and im hoping that since amd will have a closer working partnership with ati's chipset team, that whatever chipsets they come up with wont be dissapointing. i think barcelona and its corresponding cores will be impressive. they already have released the speeds that kuma (dual core AM2+ chips) will run at. 2.4ghz, 2.6ghz and 2.8ghz with 3600mtt, 3800mtt and 4200mtt HTT links. you can check it out HERE |
